Shawn Rodie Kaiso, Kyoshin Ryu Jiu-Jitsu
Sensei Rodie is the Founder (Soke) of Kyoshin Ryu Jiu-Jitsu (Open Minded / Flexible Way) School, founded on September 27th, 1992 and is the President (Kancho) and Chairman of Kyoshin Kan, founded on November 1st, 1995. He is also the current Secretary of the Ontario Jiu-Jitsu Association (OJA), which over sees the growth of sport Jiu-Jitsu in Ontario. Sensei Rodie is also a sitting examiner on both the Canadian Jiu-Jitsu Association and the Traditional Karate Arts Association (TKAC) Black Belt Grading Boards.
Sensei Rodie's martial arts career began in 1974 in Ottawa at a school known as the Black Eagle School of Jiu-Jitsu and Kick-Boxing, owned and operated by Professor Georges Sylvain 10th, Dan Can Ryu. After moving to Toronto, Sensei Rodie opened a martial arts school in downtown Toronto known as the Goshin Kai School of Self-Defense (1992-2008). Predominantly a Jiu-Jitsu School, he also ran a separate Karate program there which was an affiliated club to the University of Toronto Karate Club.
Sensei Rodie has an 8th Dan in Jiu-Jitsu with the Canadian Jiu-Jitsu Association and is the President of The New International Ju-Jutsu Federation, Kyoshin Kan. He achieved a 4th Dan in Shinzo Ryu Jiu-Jitsu (Master Gerry Watson), a 3d Dan in Jiu-Jitsu through the World Kobudo Federation (Hanshi John Therien) as well as a 2nd Dan in Kitsune Ryu Jiu-Jitsu Master Steve Reynolds). Sensei Rodie also achieved a 4th Dan in Shotokan Karate from the University of Toronto Karate Club (Master Tominaga), and most recently achieved his 5th Dan in Shotokan Karate from the Traditional Karate Arts Association (TKAC) (Hanshi Monty Guest and Hanshi Kim Dunn).
Sensei Rodie also has trained in Kenjutsu and Kendo and also has a 1st Dan in Muso Shinden Ryu Iaido (Japanese Sword Arts) through the Canadian Kendo Federation.
Sensei Rodie has over 50 years experience teaching and training in the Martial Arts, is the Founder of Kyoshin Ryu Jiu-Jitsu, is First Aid trained, has completed the National Coaching Certification Program through Karate Ontario and is “Respect in Sport for Activity leaders” certified.
